Garden State (2004)
Starring: Zach Braff, Natalie Portman, Peter Sarsgaard, Ian Holm, Jean Smart
Directed by: Zach Braff
I liked this movie. It was just quirky enough for me. I can't really describe why I liked it; I think it's because I've been around people like those depicted in the movie. Well, not quite as extreme as those in the movie, but I think they were distorted a bit so we could see them through the distorted view of Andrew Largemann.
Underneath the ode to suburban white trash is a film of discovery and heart. I really liked Natalie Portman in the movie, a quirky, fun, high energy girl that you would want to improve your life to get to know. The ending, as with the relationship between Largemann and Sam, was very sweet.
I don't have much more to say than that, it's a movie you have to see and draw your own conclusions. If you like quirky little movies, then you'll probably like Garden State. Four out of Five.
